SHANE
LEWIS PREPARES FOR BATTLE AT TROIS-RIVIERES
-FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE-
JUPITER,
Fla., July 31, 2003 - Shane Lewis is ready for battle in the
streets of the Canadian city of Trois-Rivieres. Competing in the
American Le Mans Series (ALMS) first street race of the 2003 season,
Lewis and the #63 ACEMCO Automotive Ferrari 360 GT have finished
in the
top-five of the ALMS GT class already this year. That top-five came
at
the high-speed Road Atlanta circuit shortly after leading the
prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans in the team's debut. However, Le
Circuit
Trois-Rivieres in Quebec is a very different facility than the fast
and
sweeping Road Atlanta or world famous circuit in Le Mans. The street
course, 11 turns and 1.521 miles long, is a tight, wall-lined course
through the picturesque city requiring peak concentration of Lewis
and
co-driver Terry Borcheller as well as a near perfect set-up for the
Ferrari 360 GT Modena to challenge the dominant Porsche 911s.
"Racing
at a street course is just like being in a street fight,"
offered Lewis. "It isn't always the biggest guy or the fastest
guy that
wins. Sometimes the guy willing to take the chances and who uses
his
head will be the one that walks away on top. We're going to be the
David
to the Porsche's Goliath there for sure. I haven't raced at
Trois-Rivieres so I'm looking forward to the challenge of competing
there. But, it'll be a difficult track for the ACEMCO Ferrari. The
street courses aren't our best type of track. We're strengthening
the
brain trust with the addition of Terry and Jim (Bell, team engineer)
to
the team and that is a good thing. However, the competition in the
GT
class of the ALMS is some of the best talent in any class of racing
out
there. So, we have a lot of work in front of us still. If we get
the
right conditions in qualifying, who knows where we can start and
that
will definitely help where we finish. We've had a great record this
year
completing races when a lot of things have worked against us. If
we can
carry that on to Trois-Rivieres, and we're the last guys standing,
we
just might walk away from this fight on top."
Shane Lewis is the 1998 Professional Sports Car Racing Rising Star
award
winner and is a multiple race winner in IMSA, SCCA Pro and Grand-Am
sanctioned events. He has raced in three 24 Hours of Le Mans, six
24
Hours of Daytona, seven 12 Hours of Sebring and four Petit Le Mans.
Lewis, a regular top-five finisher in ALMS competition, has earned
ALMS
podium finishes at Silverstone, the Nurburgring and Portland and
is one
of the few drivers with experience in the four major classes of
international sports car racing (LMP 900, LMP 675, GTS and GT). He
drives the ACEMCO Motorsports Ferrari 360 GT Modena in the ALMS and
the
Nuzzo Motorsports Mini Cooper S in Grand-Am Cup.
