SHANE LEWIS LENDS HAND TO SALEEN
FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MONT-TREMBLANT,
QUEBEC, Sunday, September 15, 2002 - Shane Lewis, of
Jupiter, Florida, announced this morning that he would race in the #47
Zippo/ TF Racing Saleen Mustang SR today in the 6 Heures du Circuit
Mont-Tremblant Grand-American Road Racing Series (Grand-Am) event. Lewis,
who was in Mont-Tremblant for the Grand-Am Cup Series event held yesterday
in support of King Motorsports and HRP World’s championship effort,
will
race the GTS-class entry to assist Saleen’s title pursuit effort.
“I
have a good history with Saleen and they approached me about racing
this
Saleen Mustang here today,” said Lewis from the paddock of the
beautiful,
Canadian race circuit. “I am very happy to jump in to try and
help Saleen
lock-down the Grand-Am GTS championship for the year. The Zippo guys
have
put together a good car all year and I am eager to race it. I have raced
a
number of Saleens in my career but never this car so we’ll have
a lot to
learn fast during the race.”
Lewis
has also been tabbed to wheel the #04 Istook / Aines Motorsport Group
Audi S4 in GSII class in today’s event. He will co-drive with
team regular
Don Istook. His co-drivers in the Zippo entry will be Saleen regulars
Michael Defontes and John Kohler.
“It
will definitely be exciting racing in two different cars in two
different classes in the same six-hour race,” continued the 16-time
24-hour
event starter. “Considering that I was not scheduled to drive
in this race
until late last night, it should make for a pretty entertaining day
for me.
It is nice to have this many people interested in your ability. When
it
comes down to the end of a championship season all bets are off and
it is
about who can get the job done.”
Shane
Lewis has been racing since 1989. He is the 1998 Professional Sports
Car Rising Star award winner and has multiple race wins in the IMSA
Supercar
and SCCA Pro series. This former Daytona Endurance Champion has driven
in 16
24-hour races including two 24 Hours of Le Mans, six 24 Hours of Daytona
and
six 12 Hours of Sebring. In 2002, he is competing as the lead driver
for the
#43 Orison Marketing/ Planet Earth Corvette Z06 in the GS I-class of
the
Grand-Am Cup Street Stock Series and is also racing in the American
Le Mans
Series.
